Scientific Foundation: What Makes a Neem Oil Emulsifier Work?

A key study by Kothekar & Momin (2008) demonstrated that a binary blend of polyoxyethylene alkyl ethers of different EO units was effective in reducing interfacial tension, promoting stable droplet formation, and maintaining emulsion clarity over time.

Inspired by this research, our technical team developed SUPROL NME series, a set of tailor-made surfactant systems designed specifically for neem oil EC and SE formulations.

Introducing: SUPROL NME Series

Surfactants Engineered for Neem Oil-Based Pesticides

SUPROL NME-60

o EO/PO-based non-ionic surfactant with medium HLB (11–13)

o Performs comparably to polyoxyethylene alkyl ethers in surface tension reduction

o Excellent dispersibility in hard water (up to 350 ppm)

o Ideal for 15–30% neem oil EC formulations

SUPROL NME-100

o High EO chain surfactant

o Improves film-forming ability and storage stability

o Recommended for use in combination with NME-60 for emulsifier synergy

o Excellent cold stability and low creaming index

SUPROL NME-X Blend (Custom-designed Binary Blend)

o Ready-to-use binary blend for Neem Oil 300 EC and Neem Oil 70% SE

o Performs comparably to polyoxyethylene alkyl ethers in surface tension reduction

o Stable at 0°C and 54°C for 14+ days

o Tested and validated across neem oil sources of varying azadirachtin content

Performance Under Field Conditions

Our emulsifier systems have been validated in:

o Deionized water and hard water (340 ppm)

o Neem oil loadings up to 30%

o Temperature range 10°C to 54°C

o Homogenization speeds of 2500–3000 rpm

Component % w/w
Neem Oil (300–1000 ppm Azadirachtin) 30%
SUPROL NME-60 1.0%
SUPROL NME-100 0.5%
Deionized Water / Solvent Base q.s. to 100%

Can be scaled to Neem Oil 70% SE using Xanthan gum & oil-to-suspension balancing.

Why Choose SUPROL NME Series?

o Proven performance with polyoxyethylene alkyl ether systems

o Lower surfactant dose

o Customizable HLB blends for EC, SE, and ME formats

o Consistent emulsion quality across neem oil sources

o Excellent foam control, spreadability, and rainfastness
